I’m on my way…

January 30th, 2010

Things don’t usually go exactly as you would like do they?

My Afghanistan Mission is no exception.  As an artist you want to paint when you want to paint, but it’s pretty hard to do without a canvas!

I’ve ordered 150 canvases and so far have paid  for them myself.  I tried to get them donated from Curry’s but never got a reply from the person in charge after writing many emails (very disappointed in the fact that they didn’t even answer).  I had bought a few canvases from the “Art Shack” in Moncton and found them to be excellent and decided to look on the internet to see where they were based…and lo and behold they were Canadian!

The company is Gotrick and is found in Versheres, Quebec.  I called them right away and found that the owner was away for a few days and would contact me when he got back…which he did.  In the meantime I sent an email explaining what I needed.   In the end the answer was that they couldn’t help because they had just given $10.000.00 to Haiti.   I couldn’t argue with that!

I asked if I could get them at cost and he said sure.  Normally, they sell only to stores, so this was an exception for them.

Trucking – Paid by Rayan Trucking in Moncton.  Very generous of Bernie Richard to do that for me!

Don’t  know if I can make the frames or not.  Can’t find anyone to donate some either.  Perhaps they will have to be sent as is, which I don’t want to do.

Home Hardware in Sussex, run by Andrew Hunt, is donating some  wood to make the frames.

The boxes are being donated by Norampac, who like to call themselves “the box people”.  This company is found in Moncton as well.  There was absolutely no hesitation in donating the boxes.

Shipping.   Still not settled.
